Soda Pop Junkies are now One Way Station and they’re ready to take their audiences on a musical journey of rock, blues and funk. Jump on the train… you’ll be surprised where you end up!
Just over a year ago, Soda Pop Junkies hit the San Francisco music scene as a power trio boasting smooth groovy tunes fronted by luscious female vocals. The group (Jackson Haddad, John Dering, Nic Vatalaro and Jennica Smith) took the emergence of the Indie scene to heart and began aggressively booking local dates at a variety of venues in the Bay Area, bringing fans to their knees and setting a place for themselves at the table of San Francisco’s legendary music community.
When Troy Blanchard, pianist, joined the lineup the sound blossomed into the funky blues-rock style for which they are now known. This in turn, led to several opportunities with bigger named clubs, the largest festival in Berkeley, and national touring acts such asTauk, Atomic Tom, and Acorn Project with attendances ranging from 50 to 300.
At the end of 2010, the group parted ways with their original singer, Jennica Smith, and recruited a new front man, Kenny Crowley. Kenny adds more depth to the group’s vocal harmonies as well as rhythmic accents of guitar and harmonica to the front line, opening space for more musical and vocal experimentation during their performances.
With Kenny’s addition, it was time to tackle a serious conversation that had been plaguing the band since early in the summer – their name. Reaching deep and wide to explore renaming options, they ended up finding their new namesake in one of their songs, One Way Station. Kicking off the new name and line up, One Way Station recently co-billed with The Staxx Brothers at the legendary Boom Boom Room in San Francisco and are actively building a roster of show dates for 2011.
